gilutfiHello everyone, I am currently planning the renovation of my IKEA Metod kitchen and am focusing specifically on the lighting inside the tall cabinets. My question is: how can I optimize the lighting in higher Metod tall cabinets to provide not only good general brightness but also convenient and practical usability? I’m looking for a combination of functionality and aesthetics because tall cabinets can quickly become dark and hard to see inside. Does anyone have tips on light sources, positioning, switching options, or suitable products that integrate well? I appreciate any ideas and experiences!
Great topic! I implemented the same thing at my place: LED strips installed at the top – it really adds a lot of light and looks fantastic! And if you combine it with a touch switch, it feels really high-quality 😊. Definitely don’t skimp on this in the wrong place; the lighting makes all the difference!
Optimizing the lighting in Metod tall cabinets starts with choosing the right type of light and the correct mounting position. LEDs are clearly the best choice due to their efficiency and low heat generation. I recommend using flat LED panels or flexible LED strips at the top area of the cabinet to provide even illumination inside. The placement of switches is important: versions with motion sensors save energy and improve user convenience, but the response time and installation locations must be carefully considered to avoid accidental shut-off during use. To ensure a clean appearance, cables should be concealed or routed behind coverings. For tall cabinets with glass doors, dimmable lights are also advisable to reduce glare.
Thanks in advance for the information! @Wyatt, could you maybe elaborate on the topics of wiring and power access? This is not necessarily straightforward with IKEA Metod tall cabinets, especially when installing afterward. I would also be interested to know if there are ready-made kits that can be integrated into the cabinets, or if it’s better to get creative with LED strips and custom wiring.
