Hello everyone, I have an IKEA Metod kitchen unit with standard doors without soft-close, and I would like the doors to close softly and quietly – so with a soft-close feature. What options are there to retrofit this function? I heard that there are special dampers that can be attached without having to replace the entire hinges. Are there any specific recommendations or experiences with this? It is also important to me that the installation is as simple as possible and that the appearance of the doors remains unchanged.

Blum often provides a slightly higher quality damping effect, but it is more expensive and usually requires different drilling holes.

That is correct. If you use the Metod drilling pattern, you often need adapter plates for Blum hinges, or you may encounter compatibility issues.

Summary: For Ikea Metod, soft-close functionality can be achieved either by replacing with Ikea soft-close hinges or by adding external dampers afterward, including alternative "push-to-close" dampers that can be attached.

Replacing the hinges provides the best integration and the most reliable closing over time, as hydraulic dampers are built into the hinges. This is also the best option both visually and mechanically.

Thank you for the input. I will replace the hinges and report back on how it goes!
