Hello everyone,

I recently ordered IKEA Metod kitchen fronts with recessed handles and am now facing the challenge of installing and adjusting them as quietly as possible. Specifically, I want to know how to mount the doors so that no annoying clicking or rattling noises occur when opening or closing them.

I have noticed that the hinges have adjustment options, but I am not entirely sure how to achieve the optimal setting. Additionally, I am interested in any special tips for avoiding damage to the recessed handles during installation or whether certain tools or aids should be used to ensure a quiet and durable result.

In short: What steps should I follow when installing and adjusting the IKEA Metod doors with recessed handles to achieve the quietest operation possible and ensure the doors are perfectly aligned both visually and mechanically? I look forward to your recommendations!

Hello Coskun37,

your question is very well formulated and addresses a crucial point when installing Metod doors with recessed handles.

First of all: The hinges have fine adjustments in three directions – lateral, height, and depth adjustable. These adjustments allow you to align the doors precisely and prevent rattling. It is important that the hinges are installed correctly and that all screws are tightened firmly enough without overtightening.

For quiet operation, I recommend adjusting the door so that it closes gently, but not with full force. The damping of the door is often achieved through the hinge mechanism itself in recessed handles, however, the positioning of the door is decisive.

To protect the recessed handles: Avoid using sharp tools directly on the surface and ideally use a screwdriver with the correct profile and possibly a small cloth or masking tape to prevent scratches.

If you like, I can also provide you with a small checklist of the steps I follow when installing.

Hello,
to install the hinges quietly:
- Use the side screws for alignment.
- Use the upper and lower screws to adjust the height.
- Adjust the depth with the fine-tuning screw on the hinge.
Check the damper and replace it if necessary.
Cover handle recesses with a soft cloth to prevent scratches.
Choose the appropriate tools; that will be sufficient.

Exactly. Additionally, the Metod hinges come with integrated soft-close dampers that only work optimally if the doors are properly aligned. Careless installation or misaligned doors cause the dampers to function unevenly, leading to loud or abrupt noises.

- Check before installation that all hinges and damper components are undamaged.
- First mount all doors roughly, then adjust them precisely using the adjustment screws, millimeter by millimeter.
- Make sure the doors hang perfectly vertical.
- For recessed handles, dirt or small splinters in the edges can also cause noise, so keep the work area clean.

I also recommend tightening the hinge screws with a torque wrench or, at least, carefully by feel. Over-tightening can deform the mechanism, while too loose causes play and noise.

This way you minimize mechanical noise and achieve a long-lasting result.

To add to the previous tips: It is also important to follow the correct sequence of adjustments.

- First, hang the doors and roughly align them.
- Then adjust the height so that the rebate sits evenly.
- Next, make the side adjustment to minimize the gaps.
- Finally, adjust the depth so the door is neither too tight nor too loose against the cabinet body.

This prevents stress within the hinge system, which otherwise causes noise.

Additionally, adding thin rubber bumpers inside the recessed handles can help cushion impacts. These bumpers can be glued in manually and noticeably reduce noise when closing without affecting functionality.

Another tip is to check that the cabinet body itself is perfectly level and horizontal during installation. Even a slightly uneven wall or mounting surface can cause the doors not to close properly.

Overall, the adjustment process requires some patience and fine-tuning, but with a systematic approach, a quiet result is definitely achievable.
