Hello everyone,

I plan to install the baseboards for my IKEA Metod kitchen system. My main goal is to attach the baseboards cleanly and without major issues. My question is: What is the best way to mount the Metod baseboards to avoid unsightly gaps or loose fittings, and to ensure a secure attachment even on uneven floors? Are there any specific techniques or tools that have proven effective? I have some experience with DIY projects, but I really want to avoid mistakes with the baseboards because any imperfections are quickly noticeable. Thanks in advance for your tips!

Regarding installation: If you screw the clips directly into the bottom panel of the cabinet, do not position them too close to the edge, as the wood can easily split.

Thanks sarGabriel, good point. How large should the distance to the edge be approximately to prevent tearing? And are there differences depending on the material thickness of the carcass?

A distance of 10 to 15 mm (about 0.4 to 0.6 inches) is ideal. The thicker the panel, the more stable the hold will be, of course, but with Metod the material isn’t very thick, so it’s better to plan conservatively.

Pro tip: Always use appropriate screws whose length does not penetrate the material too deeply to avoid cracking.

If you pre-drill, you significantly reduce the risk of splitting. A smaller pilot hole makes it easier for the wood to hold the screw without damage.

Great, I will definitely pre-drill. Thanks to everyone for the tips! I will get back to you when I start the installation or if any questions come up.

Good luck! If you want to visually adjust the baseboard to the wall after installation, you can apply small dabs of acrylic paint – this effectively hides fine gaps. Adhesive can also help on slightly uneven spots if clips alone are not sufficient.
