Hello,
A few weeks ago, I bought and assembled a Galant desk, 160x80cm (63x31.5 inches), with a white glass top, A-shaped legs, and a matching frame to go underneath the glass surface.
During assembly, I was quite frustrated that the holes in the glass top and the frame did not line up at all. They were about 4-5mm (0.16-0.20 inches) off from their center points. As a result, fastening the four thick supplied screws (wood screws were NOT used) was very unsatisfactory and required a lot of force — in many cases, the screws could not be fully tightened.
We didn’t want to go through the trouble of returning everything to IKEA, so we left it as it is. The glass work surface seems to hold up, but there is a lingering disappointment regarding the quality. If the desk ever needs to be disassembled and reassembled or sold, these defects will likely become apparent again.
Before taking further steps, we wanted to check in with this forum to see if others have had similar experiences with Galant desks combined with the glass tops (with wooden tops, this is usually not an issue, as the holes align properly).
Best regards and thanks,
Steve

Usually, IKEA is very accommodating and reimburses travel expenses if a defective product has been delivered. So: Get in the car and head to IKEA.

Thank you for the note about the warranty; I wasn’t aware of that. Maybe I’ll call Ikea first and try to file a complaint before taking everything apart again and driving there. If it were up to me, I would prefer to send them pictures of the issue and ask them to replace the desk on site.
It is still unclear whether only certain batches of the desk or its parts are affected, or if this is a general design flaw.
If anyone has experience with this or similar issues, or any useful tips, I would appreciate any constructive input.
Good luck
Steve
