Hello, I have now bought a new microwave (Snabb) and oven (Hyllad), as well as a new built-in cabinet. After both appliances were installed in the cabinet, there is an open gap of 2cm (0.8 inches) above the microwave. There is no trim strip or anything else to cover it. Does anyone have any ideas?

Nayla_10684 Mar 2013 16:39Hello,
Unfortunately, there is an issue that has arisen since switching to the new microwaves, as they are larger than before. Previously, the trim was about 8cm (3 inches), now it is only about 2cm (0.8 inches). As mentioned, you can cut the 2cm (0.8 inches) from a 60x9.4cm (24x3.7 inches) trim piece and press the cut edge back together. 2cm (0.8 inches) is definitely a challenging size. If you don’t have a guided saw, just go to a hardware store and have it cut there. A small tip: always put a layer of masking tape on first to prevent the edges from fraying. Then attach the cut strip using strong double-sided tape or silicone; screwing it in usually doesn’t work well or at all.
Best regards
Nayla

Hello,
At first, I thought we had assembled the cabinet incorrectly because I couldn’t understand why there isn’t a pre-made cover panel for it. We have now bought a drawer front from Lidingö and need to cut it ourselves. Although Ikea advertises that “you don’t need to be a craftsman” to assemble an Ikea kitchen 🙂
Anyway, I’m still an Ikea fan 🙂
