Hello everyone,

Last week, I saw and bought the Domsjö double sink for €79 in the clearance section. When I asked the kitchen department, I was told that it is suitable for both Faktum and Metod cabinets. However, today while installing it in my new Metod cabinet, I realized that this is not the case! The extra cross supports for the cabinet that came with the sink do not fit into the drill holes of the base cabinet. It is also not possible to use the rear cross brace on the cabinet as instructed.

To keep it short and save you from more details: Does anyone here know if there are actually two different models of the Domsjö double sink for Faktum and Metod?

Hello,

yes, there is.

METOD: Article number: 799.316.50
Length: 83 cm (33 inches)
Depth: 66 cm (26 inches)
Height: 25 cm (10 inches)

FAKTUM: Article number: 100.491.43
Length: 82.0 cm (32 inches)
Height: 25.0 cm (10 inches)
Depth: 64.0 cm (25 inches)

If the reduced depth is not an issue, I would drill the holes for the supports myself and use the sink.

The shallower depth is actually an advantage since I will be installing a 60cm (24 inch) countertop instead of a 63cm (25 inch) one, meaning the sink won’t stick out as far. I can make the drilling holes myself. The old sink also seems to have a better solution for the top water drainage. While the new sink requires connecting two drain pipes at the back, the old one handles this within the ceramic itself, so the excess water flows through the ceramic directly into the main drain, rather than needing two additional hoses to be connected (I hope this explanation makes sense).

Do you happen to know if the cross braces are intended to support the sink directly (meaning the sink rests on them), or are the cross braces only meant to stabilize the cabinet structure (so the sink does not have to rest directly on them)?

Unfortunately, I don’t know, but I do know that for FAKTUM, the row of holes is 20mm (0.8 inches) from the front edge of the cabinet, the holes are spaced 32mm (1.3 inches) apart, and the first hole is 46mm (1.8 inches) from the horizontal edge of the cabinet.

Thank you, Ikea expert.

The IKEA employee from the kitchen department told me that the cross braces do not support the weight of the sink but are only responsible for the cabinet’s stability.

Your link is very interesting. If that is really the case, I will file a complaint. The sink will be installed tomorrow, and I will test it right away. I will report back here when I know more.
