Hello everyone,
I have a problem with the drawers of my Ikea Besta cabinet—they are very difficult to pull out. It almost feels like the drawer slides are sticking or not installed correctly, but I followed the instructions exactly. The drawers move with a lot of resistance, sometimes you need almost muscle power to open them. The larger drawers seem to be especially affected.
I mainly use them for books and paper plates, so they are not loaded excessively heavy. I wonder if this is a mounting issue or if the slides might need lubrication or adjustment.
Does anyone have experience with Ikea Besta drawers that are hard to open? Are there any specific maintenance tips or adjustment tricks? I would appreciate any helpful advice or warnings about particular lubricants or assembly steps!

Remove the rails and clean all moving parts thoroughly while dry. Then apply a thin layer of silicone spray. Check and tighten the screws. That’s exactly what I did today. The cleaning already made a noticeable difference, and the silicone spray enhanced the effect. When tightening the screws, I found that two of the rails were slightly loose.
I will now pay more attention to the soft-close function and check the adjustment screws, as that sounds like an important point.
Many thanks for your tips so far, I will report back if I encounter any further issues.
Great that you stuck with it! ?
It’s really impressive to take this on yourself, especially with Besta! There’s a lot more involved than just pulling out a drawer.
If you want to do a bit of fine-tuning: Try lifting the drawers slightly at the front when pulling them out – I found that often makes a difference because it reduces the direct load on the slide.
Good luck moving forward, you’ll manage it for sure! ?
