BalojuHello everyone,
I am currently considering buying the IKEA Brimnes wardrobe and am particularly interested in experiences regarding the stability and load-bearing capacity of this wardrobe in everyday use.
Specifically, I want to know how well the wardrobe holds up in daily life – with constant opening and closing, as well as the usual load from clothes and other items. Are there any known weak points that tend to appear over time?
I am also interested in how the material quality and joints of the Brimnes wardrobe are assessed, especially with regard to long-term use.
Have you been using the wardrobe for several years and can share insights about its durability and overall robustness?
Thank you in advance!

I have had the Brimnes wardrobe in my bedroom for about 2 years.
It stands firmly when assembled correctly and the assembly instructions are followed precisely.
The doors are used daily and so far there have been no issues. Definitely make sure to tighten the screws regularly.

Hello Baloju,
to answer your question about the long-term stability of the IKEA Brimnes wardrobe accurately, I would like to share some details first.
The Brimnes wardrobe is mainly made of medium-density fiberboard (MDF) with a melamine coating. This material is generally durable, but as with many furniture pieces made from MDF, the stability largely depends on careful assembly, correct use of fasteners, and not least the distribution of weight.
A common issue that appears after extended use is loosening joints. This happens because screws and dowels can develop play due to frequent mechanical stress, such as daily opening and closing of the doors. I recommend checking all screws at least once a year and tightening them if necessary.
The hinges are of acceptable quality but may show signs of wear over time with heavy use. Occasional adjustments here can also be helpful.
It becomes especially critical if the wardrobe is overloaded, meaning storing too many heavy items at once or placing heavy loads on the doors (e.g., using them as a resting surface). This can cause deformation of the panels or cause dowels to pull out.
How exactly do you plan to use the wardrobe? Will it function as a classic clothes wardrobe with a hanging rail and shelves, or more as storage for bulkier or heavier items?
In summary, I can say that the Brimnes is suitable for everyday home use under normal loads and careful assembly. With average use, its durability is about 5–8 years before visible signs of wear appear.

I actually plan to use the Brimnes as a traditional wardrobe: with clothes on the hanging rod and lighter items on the shelves or in the drawers. I do not intend to store heavier objects there.
It is important to me that the doors and drawers still close well after frequent use and that the joints remain stable without needing constant tightening.
Do you have any indications of how much maintenance is required for everyday use? Or how much readjustment can be expected realistically?

It is important to assemble the wardrobe correctly and follow the instructions carefully. After that, checking the screws briefly every 6 months is usually sufficient.
You can easily readjust the hinges if the doors do not close properly. This is normal for mass-produced furniture and not a sign of poor quality.
Overall, the structure lasts longer if you avoid putting excessive stress on the doors and secure the wardrobe to the wall.
I love my Brimnes wardrobe! I've had it for over 3 years, and it still looks great!
Assembling it was okay, and the instructions were clear.
Of course, I occasionally check to make sure everything is still sturdy, but for me, that's more of a routine than because anything is loose.
If you don’t overfill the wardrobe or misuse the doors as shelves, you’ll really enjoy it for a long time! Simply great value for the price!!!
