Good morning everyone, I’m planning to assemble an Ikea Brimnes wardrobe soon and am wondering how much time I should realistically set aside for it. I’m not very handy, but I do have some basic experience assembling furniture frames and drawers, although nothing too extensive. Could someone with experience assembling the Brimnes give an estimate of how many hours the assembly should take at minimum, so I don’t feel rushed? It would be helpful if you could also mention whether you assembled it alone or with a partner and if that significantly affected the time needed. Thanks in advance!

I assembled the Brimnes alone in just under 2 hours. With two people, it’s definitely faster—probably around 1 to 1.5 hours. Important: carefully read the instructions and, above all, sort all the parts at the start. That makes the process go smoothly.

In general, time planning for Ikea furniture is highly overrated. A wardrobe like the Brimnes isn’t rocket science, more a test of patience and physical effort. Here’s a bold claim: if you can assemble it alone in under two hours, either you have incredibly steady hands or you know yourself very well. Whether working alone or with a partner, two people are almost always better, especially for aligning the larger pieces. But most time is usually lost on detailed work, like tightening screws in the wrong spots, screwing backwards, or having to take things apart again—everyone knows that. If you let yourself get stressed, you’ll ruin the enjoyment of the project. So: plan for extra time, focus on enjoying the assembly, and don’t watch the stopwatch.

I think this is important—especially if you’re not experienced. Last month, I assembled the Brimnes, and it took me two afternoons. It wasn’t about setting any record times, but making sure I was happy with the final result. At times, I had real doubts and frustrations, but if you allow yourself a short break now and then, it gets much easier. For someone like Kirupeo who doesn’t have much experience, I would recommend planning at least 3 hours, and if possible, splitting it over two sessions.

For two people, it takes about 1.5 hours; alone, I would estimate 2 to 3 hours. No worries, the instructions are clear. Important: Sort the screws correctly before assembly – this saves time.
