Hello everyone, I am considering buying an IKEA Brimnes chest of drawers and would like to get realistic estimates regarding the time required for assembly. I am particularly interested in how long the average assembly of such a piece typically takes, taking into account all parts and screws and using the assembly instructions. It would also be helpful to know if there is a significant difference between assembling it alone or with two people, and how much prior experience in furniture assembly should generally be expected. I would appreciate as concrete information or personal experiences as possible to help me plan better.
I think the whole discussion about assembly time is a bit exaggerated.
I would argue that the average DIY enthusiast with two left hands (no offense, it’s just a fact) might take about an hour to assemble the Brimnes chest of drawers – and that’s absolutely fine.
Anyone who finishes in under 45 minutes has probably practiced in secret beforehand or has assembled countless pieces of furniture, which is not the norm. That’s why it’s exactly right to plan for about 60 to 90 minutes, so nothing goes wrong.
All these short time estimates here seem overly optimistic to me, probably to make things look better.

One quick follow-up question for everyone: How important is it really to assemble the dresser with two people? Is it also doable alone if you take your time, or are there specific steps that definitely require a second person? I can imagine the side panels being a bit challenging on your own.

Can you manage well on your own if you take your time, or are there steps that definitely require a second person?Hello, good question! The Brimnes dresser can definitely be assembled alone, especially if you are patient and work carefully.
The biggest challenge is often handling the larger parts, such as the side panels, which can be difficult to hold in place while screwing. Here, having a helper can really make things easier, particularly when aligning the pieces.
But it’s definitely not a must. For example, if you assemble the dresser against a wall, you can lean parts against the wall to secure them, or use extra clamps if you have them. You can also take breaks and complete the steps gradually.
So: assembling with two people is more comfortable and faster, but doing it alone is absolutely doable as long as you allow a bit more time and patience.
