Hello everyone, I am about to move and own several Hemnes furniture pieces from IKEA, including beds, shelves, and dressers. My question is how easy or difficult it is to reassemble these Hemnes items after the move into the new home. Specifically, I am interested in whether the Hemnes series is particularly prone to assembly errors, if the instructions remain clear after disassembling and packing the parts, and whether one or two helpers are usually enough or if professional advice or additional tools are needed. Does anyone in the community have extensive experience they could share? Are there any special tips to keep in mind to make the reassembly process as smooth as possible? Thank you in advance!

I completely removed the head and foot parts and took out the drawers, but left the shelves inside. This works very well and makes reassembling much easier. I would remove the doors if possible – but with Hemnes, this is usually quick to do. Stability is not affected as long as the main components remain intact.

Works very well and makes rebuilding much easier. That sounds like a good strategy to reduce stress. I know from personal experience how exhausting it can be to spend hours just assembling. Still, I wonder if it’s difficult to secure partially assembled furniture safely in the moving truck or van. Does anyone have tips on how to best protect partially disassembled Hemnes furniture?
For protection, I would recommend sturdy tarps or special furniture covers, ideally wrapped around the components and secured with ratchet straps. It is important that nothing can shift or collide with each other. Small parts like screws or fittings should be placed in labeled containers or zip-lock bags, possibly attached to the furniture piece. This makes the assembly after the move much less stressful.

Even small parts like screws or fittings should be kept in labeled containers or zip bags, possibly attached to the furniture piece. Thanks, the idea of attaching screws to the furniture is new to me and sounds practical. Especially with Hemnes, which has so many small screws. Are there any other proven tips for reassembling that are particularly relevant for Hemnes? For example, regarding tension on screws or alignment screws?
When rebuilding, it is advisable not to fully tighten the screws immediately. Instead, first insert all screws lightly until all parts are in place, then tighten them one by one. This helps to avoid material distortion and optimizes the fitting accuracy. Additionally, Hemnes often uses so-called alignment screws for stabilization – these should not be ignored, otherwise everything will be loose later. If you have questions about specific models, feel free to ask.

When rebuilding, it’s advisable not to fully tighten the screws right away. I will definitely keep that in mind. Overall, the discussion is very helpful for me to better plan the move and furniture disassembly. I intend to partially or completely disassemble the Hemnes beds, mostly leave the shelves intact, and carefully label and secure all small parts. Thanks to everyone for your helpful advice!
