Hello everyone, I have a general question about IKEA Kallax: How do you connect your Kallax shelves with other IKEA furniture, such as Hemnes dressers or Besta cabinets? I’m especially interested in which screws you use, whether special fittings are necessary, and how you ensure a stable connection without the furniture wobbling or getting damaged. The goal is to modularly and securely screw Kallax to other series, ideally so that everything can be separated again if needed. I look forward to your tips and experiences!

Would adding angle brackets provide extra reinforcement, or would that be overkill?

Hello faman, two screws per side are generally a good starting point, especially if you use a more robust 15 mm (0.6 inch) board. This provides sufficient support, assuming the screws are positioned correctly (at least 3-4 cm (1.2-1.6 inches) from the edges). Angle brackets are not overkill; they can add extra stability, particularly if the joint is under load or subjected to tensile forces. If you have the space and materials available, I would recommend using them. Pro tip: Connect the components in a way that avoids leverage forces acting on the screws, as this can cause them to loosen over time.

Yes, exactly like that! 🙂 The combination of wooden boards + screws + angle brackets is like a dream team! It’s simply very sturdy and barely visible if placed cleverly. Have fun with your project – and definitely let us know how it turned out!

I would like to add: Please check that the furniture is not only screwed together but also placed on a level surface. Sometimes furniture glides or small leveling screws can help prevent wobbling. While screwing the pieces together increases stability, it does not replace a stable base for the furniture.
