Hello everyone,

I recently bought an Ikea Pax wardrobe with high-gloss fronts and am a bit unsure about how to clean these surfaces properly without damaging the glossy finish or any protective coatings that might be present.

The high-gloss fronts seem quite sensitive to scratches and streaks. I’m interested in knowing which cleaning products or methods are best suited to effectively yet gently remove fingerprints, dust, and light dirt. Should a special microfiber cloth be used, or are there common household remedies that should be avoided?

It would also be helpful to know if strong cleaning agents like alcohol or vinegar could potentially cause damage or if they can be used safely in diluted form.

I’m looking forward to well-informed advice and tips to keep my Pax’s high-gloss effect looking good for as long as possible. Thanks in advance!

Clean your Ikea Pax high-gloss fronts preferably with a damp microfiber cloth and a mild dish soap. Do not use abrasive sponges.

I would avoid alcohol or vinegar, as they can damage the finish. Afterwards, wipe down with a dry cloth to prevent streaks.

This is a common recommendation, but I wonder what it is based on. In general, high-gloss surfaces are either painted or laminated. The chemical resistance depends on the material—some finishes can tolerate low concentrations of alcohol without issue.

I have personally had good results using isopropyl-based cleaners on high-gloss fronts when applied carefully. It is important, however, to never spray directly onto the surface but to dampen the cloth instead.

Maybe someone with more technical knowledge could explain which substances actually harm the surface? A blanket "avoid" without differentiation seems somewhat uncritical.

I would also be interested to know what the official care instructions from Ikea say about high-gloss fronts, as they are the manufacturer and should be most familiar with the material.

Regarding the cleaning of Ikea Pax high-gloss fronts, I have reviewed Ikea’s official care instructions:

- Ikea generally recommends cleaning with a damp cloth without using harsh cleaning agents.
- A mild soap solution (such as dish soap) can be used, but be sure to dry the surface immediately afterward.
- Abrasive cleaners or aggressive substances like alcohol, vinegar, or solvents should be avoided, as they can damage the surface.
- For more stubborn dirt, a cleaner specifically designed for high-gloss surfaces should be used.
- Microfiber cloths are recommended because they are gentle and do not leave streaks.

In summary:
- Use mild cleaning agents, no aggressive chemicals.
- Use soft cloths, no abrasive materials.
- Do not apply liquids directly onto the surface; always dampen the cloth first.

This confirms the advice given here in the thread and emphasizes gentle cleaning to preserve the delicate high-gloss finish over time.
