Hello everyone, I have recently noticed a recurring problem with my IKEA Platsa cabinet doors, which have warped. Although the cabinet itself is stable, the doors no longer close properly and are sometimes misaligned or stuck.

I assume this is due to material warping, as the doors are made from medium-density fiberboard and may have absorbed moisture. These are free-standing cabinets, not wall-mounted doors.

My question: What is the best way to reshape warped IKEA Platsa doors or at least adjust them so they close properly again? Are there any proven technical tips or methods to fix this issue without completely replacing the doors?

I look forward to your experiences and advice, as replacing the doors would be too expensive and complicated for me.

Alternatively, installing additional fittings or adjusting the hinge screws can sometimes help guide the door better when closing.

Thank you for the tip! Could you please explain a bit more about what you mean by additional fittings? Are there specific IKEA-compatible products or general fittings that fit Platsa cabinets?

I would like to keep the original setup as much as possible, but if additional components help, that sounds interesting.

Certainly. By additional fittings, I mean small brackets or mounting hardware that can be attached to the cabinet frame or the door to improve alignment. These usually come from furniture-making or carpentry supplies and can help stabilize a warped door.

Although this is not an official IKEA solution for Platsa, there are compatible accessories available that can be used for reinforcement, such as small metal brackets that are discreetly installed on the inside.

Important: installation should be done carefully to avoid further warping or damage to the door. If possible, test on an inconspicuous area first.

If all of this feels like too much effort, my tip would be to feel the Platsa door at your next IKEA visit to get an idea of how sturdy it is.

Sometimes it helps to replace just the problematic doors (which often doesn’t cost that much) and then carefully adjust them afterwards.

Sure, it’s a bit annoying, but this way you definitely get doors that close properly again. And hey, the cabinet will look like new again 😊
