Hello everyone, some time ago I purchased the IKEA Platsa system and am generally satisfied with its appearance and flexibility. However, I am wondering about the best way to clean the surface without damaging the material or coating. My furniture is in a kitchen where cooking fumes and grease buildup frequently occur. Simple cleaning with a damp cloth usually works well, but I want to be safe and avoid unsightly streaks or even peeling. Are there any proven methods or products you would recommend for cleaning the surface of IKEA Platsa gently but effectively?

PECLARISSA10 May 2021 13:22Hey teomeo, your concern is completely understandable! The PLATSA system does look great, and nobody wants to deal with scratches or stains. My recommendation: just use a soft, lint-free microfiber cloth and lukewarm water with a bit of mild dish soap – that’s usually more than enough. Avoid heavy scrubbing or harsh cleaning agents, as they often damage the surface. For stubborn grease stains, I sometimes use a small amount of diluted rubbing alcohol – but be very careful and always wipe it off immediately with clean water. And things like nail polish remover or abrasive cleaners are definitely off-limits. The PLATSA surface prefers gentle and careful cleaning. This way, you’ll enjoy your furniture for a long time! Oh, and always dry the areas thoroughly afterward to prevent water marks. Good luck and best regards!
For targeted cleaning of the surface of IKEA PLATSA, I recommend the following procedure: - Use a mild cleaning cloth (microfiber) - Use warm water with a neutral, pH-neutral household cleaner - Avoid aggressive chemicals, abrasive cleaners, or solvent-based cleaners - Always test cleaning products on an inconspicuous area before use - Remove grease stains with a sponge, applying only gentle pressure on the surface - Afterwards, wipe the cleaned area with clear water and dry it thoroughly This helps preserve the laminate or melamine coating and prevents permanent damage. This information is based on care instructions for similar melamine-coated furniture.

Joshbe schrieb:I can only agree with this. Some time ago, I tried to remove stubborn stains using an all-purpose cleaner, but unfortunately, it went wrong – the surface became a bit dull. Since then, I prefer to use lukewarm water with a mild dish soap and a soft cloth. It takes a little longer, but the furniture still looks like new. If you accidentally cleaned too roughly and caused small scratches, I find furniture polish pads helpful to restore the appearance. In general, it’s good to be patient, as gentle care pays off in the long run. Hope this helps!
Avoid harsh chemicals, abrasives, or solvent-based cleaners
