Hello everyone, I am about to install my Ikea Pax drawers with soft-close dampers and have a few questions about the correct procedure. Specifically, I want to know how to properly attach the dampers so the drawers close smoothly and quietly without the mechanism jamming or shifting. I already have all the components: the drawers, the runners with integrated soft-close dampers, and the mounting hardware. What is the recommended assembly order? Are there specific screws that need to be tightened first, and exactly where do the dampers go? What are common mistakes to avoid during installation? I would appreciate some tips from experienced Pax owners to ensure everything is assembled cleanly and durably. Thanks in advance!

How useful is this soft-close mechanism on a budget piece of furniture, really?

I believe the soft-close feature is indeed an improvement, especially if you use the drawers frequently. When the mechanism is properly installed and the slides are not overloaded, the soft-close lasts quite a long time. Of course, you can consider it optional, but the smooth closing significantly enhances comfort. After all, who wants drawers slamming shut all the time?

Click the damper onto the rear of the drawer slides, hang the drawer, check the alignment, and tighten the screws. Done.

Hello traka, I installed my own Pax drawers and can tell you: the soft-close system works really well! The key is to align the runners precisely, which gives a solid feeling when sliding. When attaching the dampers, make sure they are secure but not forced. A little tip for you: first tighten the screws by hand, hang the drawers in, and check the function. Then you can fully tighten everything. This will save you from having to make adjustments later. Definitely avoid moving the runners back and forth with the dampers already installed, as the mechanism can easily get misaligned. Good luck with the assembly, it will surely turn out great!

First, tighten the screws just enough to hold them in place by hand, hang the drawers, and check their function. Then you can fully tighten everything.

That is exactly very good advice. Some people underestimate how important it is to secure the runners in the correct position before fully tightening. A bit of play when screwing helps to adjust the drawer for a perfect fit.
