Hello everyone,
I recently bought an Ikea Brimnes wardrobe and use it as a clothes cabinet. I noticed that the piece seems a bit unstable, especially when opening the doors frequently or when the cabinet is heavily loaded. Therefore, I’m wondering: how do professionals effectively stabilize their Ikea BRIMNES wardrobe to ensure it remains steady and doesn’t wobble or tip over? I’m interested in methods that directly reinforce or modify the structure of the cabinet itself, as well as tips for securing it to walls or additional measures commonly used by experienced furniture builders, craftsmen, and DIY enthusiasts. I would appreciate detailed and practical advice!

One more note on floor leveling: Since the Brimnes is often placed on laminate or hardwood flooring, a slight height adjustment of the furniture legs can significantly improve stability. Rubber feet or adjustable furniture legs can serve this purpose. This prevents rocking or wobbling caused by uneven floor surfaces.
Thank you for the detailed advice. In summary, I take away the following measures:
- Always fix walls with suitable anchors
- Extras like metal brackets inside and additional reinforcements on the back panel and shelves
- For rental apartments where drilling is not allowed, telescopic rods, furniture wedges, and non-slip mats help
- Retightening and, if necessary, replacing screws
- Adjusting feet with felt pads or rubber feet to compensate for uneven floors
One last question: Is there any experience with screwing two or more BRIMNES cabinets together to increase stability? Is it worthwhile, or is it rather complicated and of little benefit?

If you connect the cabinets with furniture connectors at carcass height, the entire structure gains rigidity. It is important to position the screws so that the cabinet can still be mounted flush against the wall.
Pairing cabinets? Sure, I did it – looks like a mini modular build! 😂
Jokes aside: It definitely makes sense to connect the BRIMNES units if you have the space. It holds almost better than a single muscle powerhouse! Just remember to do this before wall mounting, so everything sits flush against the wall.
