Hello everyone,

I am currently planning a renovation of my Ikea Platsa cabinets and keep encountering difficulties when coordinating the measurements. My question is: How do other users in this forum agree on the exact dimensions for Ikea Platsa renovation work, especially when it comes to custom adjustments and precise installation?

I would appreciate it if you could share your methods and experiences, for example, which tools you use, how you ensure accurate measurements, and if you have encountered any particular challenges.

Thanks in advance for your tips!

I recommend recording the measurements in a table and documenting the actual dimensions compared to the nominal Platsa dimensions.

I also consider this very important. Especially when renovating Platsa, it is essential to proceed systematically to avoid re-measuring and correcting later on.

Before starting work, I create a precise overview of all measurements and transfer the fixed room data into a sketch. This way, I always have a clear overview of where adjustments will be necessary.

Additionally, I recommend using tools like a protractor or spirit level to detect any deviations early on.

I always proceed as follows: take measurements at the exact spot where the cabinet will be placed, and document the distances—height, width, and depth. Then assemble the individual modular units accordingly. The rest usually falls into place during installation.

This is how I proceed: I take measurements of the room, then check the plans of the Platsa modules. I factor in a tolerance of about 3-5 mm (0.1-0.2 inches) for fitting. If there are deviations, I usually modify the fronts, since the internal boxes are standardized.

To directly address your original question: It’s important to take measurements at multiple points. Especially with custom-fitted furniture, you cannot assume that walls and ceilings are perfectly straight and level.

I usually recommend combining paper or digital sketches with precise measurements that you double-check if in doubt. This approach helps minimize errors that are often overlooked when measuring only once.

I completely agree. Additionally, I suggest verifying important measurements using a laser distance measurer aimed at the wall or ceiling. A visual cross-check helps to identify and avoid measurement errors early on.

Additionally, I recommend double-checking important measurements using geonavigation (a small laser pointer) against the wall or ceiling.

That sounds great! I think when you work so thoroughly, the whole renovation becomes much more enjoyable because you can clearly see that it’s working!

So keep at it, don’t get discouraged, it’s definitely worth it!
