Hello everyone, I have a specific question regarding IKEA Besta and the optimal use of corners and recesses in my home. I am particularly interested in how to arrange the flexible Besta units to provide maximum storage space without wasting corner areas or making them impractical. Are there proven assembly methods or combinations that work especially well for challenging room shapes? Additionally, I would like to know if extra measures, such as special accessories or custom modifications, are useful to make the most efficient use of corner spaces. I look forward to your input, tips, experiences, and general advice to avoid mistakes during my planning.
I would even say that the entire Besta system is not really ideal for tricky corners. Sure, it is modular, but it follows a grid that rarely fits perfectly into every corner. A true perfectionist would almost have to resort to custom solutions. IKEA aims for the mass market and standard designs, which is too rough for individual requirements regarding corners and niches.
At this point, I would recommend either having a professional interior furniture system custom-made or using Besta as a supplement, but not as a cure-all. I know this is a provocative opinion, but anyone who wants to maximize every bit of storage space in niches can’t avoid individual solutions.

I would even say that the entire Besta concept is not really ideal for tricky corners.I understand your point, but I think Besta also offers flexibility that you can make use of with a bit of creativity. For me, it was especially important that I didn’t need a custom-made solution, as that would have been too expensive. A lot can be done with Besta if you’re willing to accept small compromises and not finish the corners completely perfectly, but rather in a practical and aesthetically “good enough” way.
Not every room is made for custom cabinetry; sometimes you have to live with things that aren’t 100% ideal—and still make the best possible use of the niche.
Two additional points to complement the previous explanations: 1. Using corner solutions made from angle brackets, as pauPierce described, is the most practical approach. However, care should be taken to place the screws in a way that does not compromise the load-bearing capacity. 2. The positioning of the modules should be based not only on the width but also on the room height. Especially in alcoves, staggering (different heights of the cabinet units) can create an aesthetically pleasing and functional result.
Overall, I recommend assembling several layout options on a trial basis before final installation and, if necessary, using a sketch or CAD tool for this purpose.

Thank you very much for all the tips! The idea of using angle brackets and wooden strips sounds reasonable. Let’s see how feasible it is for me to do with my tools.
Regarding ceiling height: The niches are about 200 cm (79 inches) high. I am considering combining cabinets at the bottom with wall shelves above to make full use of the vertical space.
Are there any special recommendations for securely installing wall shelves from the Besta range inside niches? Sometimes I worry about the heavy load, for example when storing books or multimedia equipment.

Are there any special recommendations for securely mounting hanging shelves from the Besta range in niches?Yes, securely mounting Besta wall cabinets in niches requires special attention. Here are some recommendations: - Make sure the wall material is assessed (e.g., concrete, drywall). For concrete or masonry, use appropriate anchors and screws that ensure the load-bearing capacity. - For drywall, use heavy-duty anchors and, if possible, locate the mounting points on the wall studs or framing. - Follow the manufacturer’s specified maximum load capacity – Besta wall cabinets are designed for moderate loads; consider additional wall anchoring or support from top elements if needed. - If possible, fasten the cabinets together at their adjoining sides to prevent tipping. - Especially in niches, it is advisable to install two or three wall cabinets in a row to better distribute the load.
Of course, precise planning is essential, as improperly installed hanging shelves can quickly become a safety hazard.
