Hello everyone, I recently bought several IKEA Hemnes shelves and noticed during setup that my floor is not completely level, which causes the shelves to wobble slightly. Since these shelves are made of wood and quite tall, I definitely want to improve their stability to prevent tipping or rocking. My question is: What are effective ways to stabilize IKEA Hemnes shelves on an uneven floor without affecting the appearance of the furniture or making major structural modifications? I would appreciate hearing about your experiences with different methods, materials, or perhaps specialized IKEA accessories that you have tried.

Hey Ronichen, great and important question! 🙌 Especially Hemnes shelves with their wooden design are not only stylish but also quite large, so stability is really crucial! I had exactly the same problem at home. My recommendation: stick small rubber pads under the shelf feet! They not only provide grip but also protect the floor. Additionally, I secured my shelves with wall anchors, which makes them completely tip-proof! 😊 It’s also important to check that the floor has full contact everywhere – for holes or uneven spots, suitable wooden wedges or homemade shims made from cork often help. This way, you can level out the irregularities and improve stability. Good luck! You’ve got this!

Wow, great topic! Teonon has already given some excellent advice 😊, especially the wall mounting, which is really invaluable! By the way, I fixed my Hemnes shelves additionally with foam rubber strips on the contact surfaces. This also cushions small vibrations and prevents them from wobbling with slight shocks. If you don’t have a perfectly level floor, it’s definitely a good idea to use small adjustable feet, which Ikea doesn’t offer as standard but are available from third-party manufacturers. Just screw them under the shelf feet and adjust the height accordingly. If you want to secure your shelves even more, you can also connect them to the wall at the lower part with brackets – I bought galvanized metal brackets that are discreet and hold firmly. Good luck and keep it up! 💪

I can definitely confirm that. I once had Hemnes shelves on an old wooden plank floor that wasn’t completely level anymore. The wedges made a huge difference; you don’t even notice anything is underneath. Combined with wall anchors, the shelf was rock solid.

It’s encouraging to see that small fixes can have a big impact. Once you try it, you’ll quickly realize you don’t have to do anything complicated to improve stability!

By the way, what about screw holes when attaching shelves to walls? Does anyone have tips on how to make them neat and easy to do?

It’s best to use wall anchors suitable for the wall type. Pre-drill holes, then insert the anchors and fix the screws. Afterwards, fill the holes with filler compound and sand them down. This keeps everything neat and stable.
