Good morning everyone,
I recently purchased an Ikea Brimnes bed and am now facing the task of securely attaching the back panel. The included screws and thin boards don’t seem very sturdy to me, and I want to avoid the back panel coming loose or causing problems later on, especially since the back panel also helps stabilize the overall structure.
My questions are: How can I securely and permanently attach the back panel on the Ikea Brimnes bed? Which screws or fixing methods have proven effective, possibly beyond the original fittings? Do I need to fasten the entire back panel surface, or is spot fastening sufficient?
If anyone has experience with reinforcement or alternative solutions, I would really appreciate any tips.
I enjoy assembling furniture myself, but when it comes to the stability of the back panel, I want to be absolutely sure to use the right approach.

The original panel is really quite thin, almost like cardboard. That sums it up pretty well. I was worried that the thin back panel wouldn’t last long without reinforcement.

I solved this for myself by using small metal brackets on the inside. That does sound like a practical solution.
I’m now leaning towards using the original panel but adding brackets at the inside corners as suggested.
How would you recommend attaching the brackets? With small wood screws directly into the frame?
And what about the back panel itself—should the screws be tightened firmly or more gently to avoid cracking the panel?
