Hello everyone, I recently purchased an Ikea Pax wardrobe system for my bedroom and am now facing the challenge of how to securely attach the furniture to the walls of my old building. The walls are very uneven and mostly made of solid masonry, but in the rear area there are also some wooden beams and plaster that doesn’t always seem stable. Since the Pax furniture is quite tall and heavy, I definitely want a secure fixing to prevent it from tipping over or getting damaged. What methods or anchors would you recommend for fastening in such varied wall conditions? Are there any special tips for old building walls to ensure everything holds well without damaging the wall? Thanks in advance for your detailed advice!

Hey aqilkla, great topic! I just want to encourage you – this can definitely be solved! The key is to take your time and carefully decide on the fixing points. The IKEA Pax systems are excellent, and when properly secured, they hold really firmly!

My tip: Look for good heavy-duty wall plugs – I’m a fan of those with metal sleeves because they grip very well. And if you manage to screw into wooden beams, take advantage of that – wood screws will give you even better strength! Trust me, if you work carefully, you’ll enjoy your cabinet for a long time. So, grab your drill and good luck – you’ve got this! 🙂

Hello everyone, I’ll just chime in briefly! 😉

Old masonry walls and IKEA furniture – that might not sound like a perfect match at first, but with the right technique, it can have a happy ending. The combination of heavy-duty wall plugs plus wood screws into the beams is basically the dream team for securing your Pax wardrobe. It’s also important to use screws of the correct length so nothing wobbles.

And a small tip: always drill the holes straight, not at an angle, otherwise things can quickly become misaligned.

Good luck with your DIY project – maybe your Pax will soon be the highlight of your bedroom!
