Hello everyone,

I am planning to install several Ikea Metod wall cabinets in my new kitchen. The wall is entirely made of drywall, and I am unsure how to securely and permanently fasten the cabinets there. I know that Metod cabinets usually need to support relatively heavy loads, especially when storing pots and dishes.

My questions are:
- What types of anchors or fasteners are suitable for drywall in this case?
- Are there any special mounting rails or substructures that you would recommend?
- How can I ensure that the fastening will hold long-term without risk of tearing out?

I would appreciate detailed, practical tips and recommendations for securely attaching Metod wall cabinets to drywall—ideally based on real-life experience or testing.

Thanks in advance!

Additionally, I would like to add the following:

- When choosing screws, make sure to use wood of sufficient load-bearing capacity (avoid screws that are too thin or too short).
- Use corrosion-resistant screws whenever possible, especially in areas with higher humidity, such as kitchens.
- If you really want to use only hollow wall anchors, make sure to distribute the load clearly across multiple anchors. However, for this method, it is not a recommended approach.
- Check if you can use wall profiles (e.g., C-profiles for metal studs) directly. However, screwing into metal studs is more difficult.

In conclusion: the best and safest solution is always a load-bearing core behind the drywall, directly at the studs. A mounting panel is the gold standard because it distributes the load over a larger area and holds screws securely.

A batten substructure fixed to the studs is a practical solution that also works with finished plaster because you install it from the outside.

Exactly, that works well.

If the battens are attached to the studs, you can securely fasten the Metod rail to them.

But make sure the battens are sturdy enough and not too thin.
