Hello everyone, I have a somewhat specific question and hope for your expert advice: How can I securely fix IKEA Billy bookcases on tiled floors? My main concern is to prevent the shelves from slipping or tipping over, since the floor is made of smooth tiles and I want to avoid damaging them. I have noticed that some shelves tend to move slightly on carpets or wooden floors, but I imagine this is more challenging on tiles. Are there special solutions I should consider, such as suitable adhesive pads, specific anchors, or brackets? I would also be interested in experiences with wall mounting, in case that is essential for stability. Thank you in advance!

As a supplement: When drilling into tiles, I strongly recommend using a hole saw with a diamond or carbide tip at low speed to avoid chips or cracks in the tiles.

Additionally, the drilling spot should be taped beforehand to prevent the drill from slipping.

For anchors, so-called tile anchors or cavity wall anchors are suitable, which are specifically designed for fastening in tiles or cavity walls.

The combination of wall mounting and slip protection under the shelf feet keeps the Billy shelf permanently stable.

Wall mounting is mandatory if the shelf is to remain stable. Use special tile anchors for this purpose and place rubber or felt pads under the feet to protect tiles and prevent slipping.

You can also use sturdy brackets that are screwed to both the shelf and the wall. Make sure to use appropriate anchors for tiles, otherwise the tile may crack.

If you want to avoid drilling into the tiles, check if the wall behind the tiles is easily and quickly accessible.

This is an important point. If a drill-free installation is preferred, certain heavy-duty adhesive tapes can be used as an alternative. Although they do not fully support the same usability, they might make handling easier for lighter shelves.

mounting on the wall is practically mandatory

I agree with that. To ensure maximum stability and safety, wall anchors should be used. This is the proven practice for shelves like Billy.
