Hello everyone, I am facing the following challenge: I bought an IKEA Brimnes bed and want to safely transport it through narrow staircases. The stairs are tight, with very little space near the walls, and some corners are beveled, which makes maneuvering difficult. The piece of furniture is quite bulky, and even when disassembled, some parts are still large and heavy. I want to avoid damaging the bed or its parts during transport, as well as minimize any damage to the walls or the staircase. Does anyone have experience or tips on how to safely carry large furniture like the Brimnes through narrow stairs? Are there any special techniques, tools, or other recommendations that could make the transport easier and prevent damage? Thanks in advance for your help!

Hello valentin42, I can understand well that moving a piece of furniture like that through narrow stairways is quite challenging. I had a similar problem last year with my new wardrobe from IKEA; we carefully checked the individual parts for damage first and then planned the transport.

In my opinion, it is important to disassemble as much as possible before carrying and to find suitable carrying positions for each part, for example, always placing edges flat. Wrapping padding or old blankets around the edges also helped me protect both walls and furniture.

I was quite nervous myself, but with a little patience, it works well. If you have someone to help, you can take turns and shift the load optimally. Remember to protect your back; otherwise, it can become quite exhausting.

To complement the previous tips: For the safe transport of an IKEA Brimnes bed through narrow staircases, I recommend systematically considering the following points:

- Disassemble the bed as much as possible according to the assembly instructions to make the individual parts easier to handle.
- Apply padding to particularly sharp edges, for example with blankets or special furniture pads.
- Use carrying straps to better distribute the weight and maintain control.
- The largest cross-sectional dimension of the furniture piece is crucial when navigating the stairs. Measure precisely whether the part fits through the staircase; it may be essential to turn it diagonally.
- Plan the route in advance to include breaks or adjustments as needed.

This structured approach reduces damage to the furniture and walls as well as physical strain. Also consider having helpers for safe coordination.

This is a very important point that I would like to emphasize. Additionally, I recommend paying close attention to timing, especially in tight spots. Sometimes it helps to carefully tilt and rotate the piece of furniture just enough so that the widest part barely fits through. Work calmly and deliberately, using poles or even small ramps if the construction allows.

Also: Flexible rubber gloves provide better grip on heavy parts than bare hands or regular work gloves.

A short checklist that helped me avoid damage to the furniture and the property entirely:
- Measuring all relevant passages
- Preparing padding
- Carrying support with appropriate straps or at least firm handles
- Proceeding step-by-step and staying calm

I hope this helps.
