Hello everyone, I have an IKEA Metod drawer that unfortunately is broken – specifically, the front panel is cracked at the connection point to the drawer box. The drawer itself can hardly be closed anymore because the stability at this spot is completely lost. I would like to repair the drawer without having to replace everything. Does anyone have experience or tips on how to repair a Metod drawer in a stable and long-lasting way? For example, which tools or replacement parts should be used, and what should be considered to maintain proper functionality? Thanks in advance for your help!

Could you explain the wooden strips in more detail? Do you have to cut and glue them?Exactly. It’s best to use small, lightweight strips made of beech or spruce wood, about 5x10 mm (0.2x0.4 inches) in size. The important thing is that they fit well into the break area. They are glued with wood glue and secured using clamps. Before gluing, lightly sand the surfaces to be joined. This significantly increases stability without interfering with the drawer mechanism.
A while ago, one of my Metod drawers broke – it was quite frustrating. After that, I glued the sides and front together with wood glue and additionally screwed a small metal plate inside for reinforcement. I positioned the metal plate so that it does not interfere with the drawer’s function. Since then, I haven’t had any problems. It is important to completely remove the drawer before the repair and make sure all parts are thoroughly dried.
In summary, I would recommend: - Carefully prepare the front and carcass (cleaning, sanding) - Cut and glue wooden strips made of lightweight wood to the appropriate size - Apply clamps for at least a few hours - Alternatively or additionally, use suitable brackets or metal plates on the inside - Don’t forget to pre-drill to prevent new splitting This way, the drawer will last longer again.
