Hello everyone, I have an IKEA Metod drawer that unfortunately is broken – specifically, the front panel is cracked at the connection point to the drawer box. The drawer itself can hardly be closed anymore because the stability at this spot is completely lost. I would like to repair the drawer without having to replace everything. Does anyone have experience or tips on how to repair a Metod drawer in a stable and long-lasting way? For example, which tools or replacement parts should be used, and what should be considered to maintain proper functionality? Thanks in advance for your help!
When repairing the Metod drawer, it is important to first thoroughly clean all break points and remove any loose parts. For the adhesive, I recommend a high-quality wood glue based on polyvinyl acetate that cures with some flexibility. Alternatively, small metal braces can be installed inside to further reinforce the joint. Use clamps for at least 2 hours and then allow to dry for at least 24 hours. If the front is only hooked in place, the fastening clips should also be checked and replaced if necessary.

My tip: carefully remove the drawer so you can properly glue the broken areas. I also glued small wooden strips inside, which make the connection really strong. There’s another trick: applying a layer of masking tape on the outside protects the appearance and holds everything together while drying. It works great, as if nothing was missing!

Should I use standard strips from a hardware store, or do they need to have a specific thickness? And how do I attach them inside without restricting the drawer’s function?Similar topics
