Hello everyone, I have an IKEA Metod kitchen with the standard countertops from the series and would like to know: How can I best protect these kitchen countertops against permanent stains? I’m referring to everyday situations like red wine, oil, fruit juice, or food stains that often leave unpleasant discolorations. Are there any special cleaning products, sealants, or general care tips I should follow to keep the surface looking flawless in the long term? Thanks in advance for your advice!

I can understand well how frustrating permanent stains on the countertop can be. It happened to me too when I once overlooked a stain. Since then, I try to avoid any stains altogether, which isn’t always easy. Therefore, I would recommend being especially careful in daily use, especially with undiluted red wine or citrus juice. I hope these tips help and that we can all keep our kitchens looking nice for longer.

I completely agree. So here’s an important question for nenoan: What exact surface do you have? Metod countertops come in different materials: laminate, solid wood, or Fenix?

- For laminate, the above advice applies.
- Solid wood requires different cleaning and oiling methods.
- Fenix is especially resistant but needs specific care.

This really makes a big difference when it comes to protection strategies.

Good question! I have the standard laminate panel (“birch black-brown decor”). So no wood grain or Fenix finish. I was thinking that at least regular cleaning and maintenance could provide decent protection.

If anyone has tips specifically for laminate surfaces, I would appreciate it!

Here are some specific tips for laminate panels:

- Use mild cleaning agents, preferably pH-neutral.
- Avoid standing water, as it can cause adjacent edges to swell.
- For stubborn stains, a paste made from baking soda and water can help, but test it carefully and spot-check on the surface first.
- Always wipe the panel dry after cleaning.
- There are special laminate care sprays that can seal the surface and help prevent minor scratches.
- Avoid harsh or corrosive substances like concentrated vinegar or rubbing alcohol on the entire surface.

Following these tips should significantly improve stain resistance over time.
