Hello everyone, I am planning to install the kickboards for the IKEA METOD kitchen system in my home and want to secure them properly so that they hold up long-term without loosening or getting damaged. The kickboards are either made of wood or plastic, and IKEA usually only supplies clips or screws. My question is: which installation method provides the best long-term stability and appearance? Is it necessary to fasten the kickboards additionally with screws, or are the clips alone sufficient? What about preparing the subfloor, especially with slightly uneven floors or tiles? Are there any tips for cutting and fitting the kickboards precisely to prevent warping due to temperature changes or moisture? I look forward to detailed experiences and recommendations on the correct and durable installation of the METOD kickboards, not only regarding durability but also care and potential later replacement if needed.

Which installation method provides the best long-term stability and appearance? Do the baseboards need to be fixed with screws as well, or are the clips alone sufficient? The clips specified by the manufacturer are sufficient if installed correctly. Additional screws often cause the material to tear, as the baseboards are made from coated wood-based panels or plastic.

Attach the clips evenly every 30 to 40 cm (12 to 16 inches) in the middle area of the underside of the baseboards. These spacing intervals are professional practice. Additionally, the flatness of the substrate must be ensured. Using leveling material allows cabinets to be installed perfectly level, which is essential for an accurate fit of the baseboards.
Also important: when installing baseboards in a staggered pattern, avoid expansion joints at corners to prevent visual defects. This is especially relevant in rooms with significant temperature fluctuations.
Conclusion: Using the intended clips combined with precise preparation ensures a durable, stable, and visually appealing fastening of the METOD baseboards.

If you have an uneven floor that causes large gaps, I recommend the following:
- Level the floor first using a self-leveling compound or leveling mortar if it is significantly uneven.
- Alternatively, support the cabinets underneath with shims and align them precisely.I agree with this. Only proper preparation of the floor and cabinets ensures a long-lasting installation. With major unevenness, clips won’t be very effective. On a correctly leveled floor, clips hold securely for years without the material giving way.
