Hello everyone,

I recently assembled several Ikea Metod kitchen cabinets at home and noticed that some of them wobble or tilt slightly, even though they are on a level floor. This is especially unpleasant with wider cabinets, particularly when using drawers or doors – it feels unstable overall.

My question to the community is: What proven techniques or measures do you recommend to effectively prevent wobbling and tilting of Ikea Metod cabinets? I’m specifically thinking about installation, adjustment, or additional stabilization methods that make the cabinet truly secure and stable.

For example, are there special anchoring methods to the wall, or is it essential to place leveling material under the feet? I look forward to your experiences and tips, as I currently have limited scope for adjustments and am looking for a solid solution.

Hello rumibau,

In general, with Ikea Metod cabinets, wall mounting is crucial to prevent tipping and wobbling. These cabinets are designed for a secure anchoring that significantly increases stability.

1. Always use the supplied brackets and screws for wall mounting.
2. Compensate for uneven floors with suitable leveling blocks or washers – especially on tiled or uneven surfaces.
3. Screw the cabinets together using the side connection systems to prevent them from wobbling against each other.
4. Ensure all screws are fully tightened, not just hand-tight.

A secure wall attachment and floor leveling usually solve most stability issues.

Important: Always secure cabinets to a solid wall using anchors.
Adjust the feet and use small wooden wedges to compensate for uneven surfaces.
Properly adjust the hinges to prevent doors from sticking or wobbling.

I can only emphasize this. Wall mounting is an absolute must for all Metod cabinet modules, no matter how stable the floor seems. Additionally, I recommend checking the floor’s evenness with a spirit level before assembly and placing a one-centimeter-thick (0.4 inch) wooden board or special furniture pads if there are any minor uneven spots.

This is a point often underestimated. Cabinets with poorly adjusted doors often appear unstable, because constant tilting transfers stress to the structure.

Also keep in mind: cabinets should either be fully screwed to the wall or placed on a level surface — doing both together reliably reduces movement.

Brief and to the point, supplemented with some tips from my experience:

- Metod cabinets were designed for wall mounting; a freestanding unit always feels unstable without proper fixing.
- The connecting fittings between individual cabinets also increase stability, especially in wide kitchen runs.
- If the floor is very uneven, small furniture shims or adjustable feet can be added.
- When assembling, be sure to align the shelves and back panels correctly, as this also contributes to rigidity.

Following these steps significantly reduces any wobbling and helps prevent subsequent damage caused by constant stress.
