Hello everyone,
I recently bought an Ikea Besta cabinet, which I want to convert into an efficient storage solution for my office supplies. My goal is to optimize the interior space so that various office items like binders, writing materials, electronic accessories, and documents are well organized and easily accessible at all times. I want to make the best possible use of the available space—especially interested in how to increase flexibility through adjustable shelf heights, inserts, or drawers. I am also considering whether it is worthwhile to retrofit additional interior fittings, such as boxes, dividers, or special organizers for cables and pens. I would like to hear if anyone has experience with custom builds to adapt the interior individually and functionally without compromising the stability or design of the furniture.
In summary: How can I best optimize the interior of the Ikea Besta cabinet for various office supplies to create order and make the space flexible and clear?
Looking forward to your tips and suggestions!

I find it interesting how everyone here always praises modularity as an advantage, but rarely considers whether you actually want a cabinet or prefer completely open shelves.
In a modern office environment, quick access is often more important than the dust protection function of a closed cabinet.
Therefore, this discussion could also be expanded to include furniture type, rather than focusing only on optimizing the Besta interiors.

Implementation of storage boxes that are ideally stackable and possibly transparent

This is a valid point that needs to be assessed individually depending on the use case. Some environments require protection against dust or curious eyes, for example, in shared workspaces.
The choice between a cabinet and an open shelf should therefore be made based on specific needs. Within the discussion about the BESTA, it still makes sense to optimize the interior space, regardless of whether the doors are open or closed.
The goal remains to make the most efficient use of the existing unit. The mentioned organizational and storage solutions are helpful in achieving this.

Office supplies vary greatly in how often they are used – documents needed daily should be stored within easy reach, ideally at eye level, while items used less frequently can be placed lower or higher up. That’s a good point I hadn’t explicitly addressed before. Ergonomics and user-friendliness are indeed important to me, meaning that frequently needed materials should be quickly accessible with minimal effort.

If you have space on the inside of the doors, you can install small hooks or holders there I find ideas like that interesting and will definitely consider it. So far, I haven’t given enough thought to using the door as additional storage space.
Thanks to everyone so far – your suggestions are very helpful in organizing my options. If anyone has specific product recommendations or experience with particular IKEA inserts or suppliers that offer better quality than standard items, I would appreciate it.
