Hello everyone,
I just registered here. My name is Michael, I am 31 years old and I come from the beautiful city of Cologne – Alaaf.
This week, I put together a wall unit from the Besta system at IKEA, but I need to hang two of the pieces on a concrete wall.
The two pieces are the following:
What kind of anchors and screws would you recommend for mounting them on the wall?
Is the hanging system that comes with it—the plastic parts—really reliable?
If I understood correctly, I’m supposed to screw the hangers onto the back panel and then screw directly through the cabinet frame into the wall from the inside of the cabinet?
So many questions.
Best regards, Michael

Did I understand correctly that I should screw the hangers to the back panel and then screw a screw from inside the cabinet, through the cabinet, into the wall? Yes and yes

kleiner kobold27 Mar 2012 18:18Hello,
I didn’t want to start a new thread, so I’ll just join here with my question (pun intended): Are 8 mm (5/16 inch) anchors with matching screws sufficient for a concrete wall (it’s impossible to work without a hammer drill for this wall), or is it better to use 10 mm (3/8 inch) anchors and matching screws? Also, are machine head screws suitable in this case, and how long should the screws be?
I can’t really imagine that three small plastic boxes can hold the weight of 30 kg (66 lbs) of contents.
By the way, what is the maximum load capacity of the cabinets when mounted on the wall? These are the ones with a 40 cm (16 inch) depth and doors.
Unfortunately, the hotline couldn’t provide any information.
Thanks and best regards from kleiner kobold

IKEA-Experte27 Mar 2012 22:46An 8 mm dowel with a 6 mm screw should be sufficient. Use real wood screws instead of particleboard screws. This will provide better hold for the dowel. For the length, the dowel length should equal the screw diameter plus the distance from the wall to the inside of the back panel.
Each shelf board has a maximum load capacity of 30 kg (66 lbs). However, can the total maximum load be derived from this information?
I would recommend contacting IKEA in writing and asking whether they would be liable for any (in the worst case fatal) personal injury caused by overloading due to lack of data, especially if they cannot provide you with the information again. The email address can be found in IKEA’s legal notice.

Hello everyone,
I’m also joining this thread as a newcomer because it’s exactly about this topic… mounting Besta units.
Among other things, I have item 001.340.52, a Besta shelving bench with 2 shelves, which was shown hanging on the wall in the advertisement and in the store, just as I plan to do. However, I’m not only skeptical about the two plastic components, but I have also read several times that some Besta parts are not suitable for wall mounting at all.
Can anyone help me here? Can a 13 kg (29 lbs) shelving bench, which will also have a door attached and may hold books or bottles, really be supported by just two plastic pieces and a particleboard back panel? Or do I need to use a completely different piece of furniture for this purpose because showroom models are not necessarily practical?
Thank you very much in advance!
