Hello everyone,

I am currently considering how to make the storage space in my IKEA Metod kitchen cabinets as efficient as possible, especially through the choice and arrangement of the interior fittings. It is important to me to make the best use of the existing cabinet heights and depths without making the compartments too confusing or difficult to access.

For example, I am interested in which combinations of drawers, shelves, pull-outs, tray slides, or specialized inserts like cutlery organizers or spice racks work best together.

Does anyone have practical tips that have proven effective for maximizing space? Also, how can one maintain order and overview when trying to store as much as possible without everything becoming messy? I look forward to experiences and recommendations, including any advice on the limitations of the Metod modules. Thanks in advance!

I would recommend choosing drawers with adjustable dividers. They provide flexibility. Pull-out trays are worthwhile to make deeper areas easily accessible. Binders and boxes help to keep things organized.

Hello Alilu,

To make the most of storage space inside Metod cabinet interiors, it is crucial to carefully plan the overall system in addition to choosing the right interior fittings. Several factors should be considered:

- Cabinet height and depth: Metod cabinets are usually available in depths of 60 or 80 cm (24 or 32 inches). For maximum utilization, I recommend using drawers with full-extension slides so that you can access the entire depth without overlooking or struggling to reach items at the back.

- Combination of different storage elements: I use drawers of varying heights—for example, taller ones for pots and pans and shallow ones for cutlery, plates, or food supplies. Internal dividers help prevent items from shifting when pulling out the drawers.

- Flexible shelf pull-outs offer the advantage of adjustable height to suit individual needs. By using the full cabinet height, for instance with two or three levels, storage capacity is truly maximized.

- Additionally, I suggest interior tall cabinet door organizers for spices or smaller bottles. This creates extra space without taking up cabinet volume.

- Door planning is also important: when installing an external shelving system on deep cabinets, it provides extra storage and makes it easier to access small items.

- Lastly, I recommend starting with a precise inventory of your kitchen items to design the most practical layout—since not everyone needs the same arrangement.

Are there particular items or types of equipment you want to store especially well? Knowing this would help provide more targeted suggestions.

That’s an important question because comfort and storage efficiency strongly depend on what exactly needs to be stored.

As an addition to Gafiel’s tips, I would recommend using internal drawers with adjustable dividers for Metod cabinets. This way, for example, pots or bowls stay separated and organized, preventing the common chaos caused by shifting items inside.

Furthermore, drawer inserts with rubber mats are very practical to reduce slipping, especially for cutlery or fragile items.

Another idea: If possible, use roll-out or removable boxes for dry foods or cleaning supplies. They can be easily pulled out and provide a tidier overview.

If Alilu is still unsure, I also suggest taking a close look at IKEA’s product information on interior fittings. They often include dimensions and compatibilities that are important for optimal planning.

I hope this helps for now!
