Hello everyone,

I plan to securely and neatly install several IKEA Metod wall cabinets in my kitchen, but I am facing some uncertainties about the best way to do this. My main questions are about the correct choice and positioning of anchors and screws to ensure long-lasting stability, especially since the cabinets need to hold a considerable amount of weight.

In addition, I am interested in how to prevent the cabinets from hanging crooked or loosening over time. Are there specific tools or techniques that make the installation easier or safer?

I would appreciate tips on wall preparation and cabinet alignment, particularly from anyone who has experience with these cabinets and different wall types (e.g., concrete, drywall).

Thank you in advance for your helpful advice!

The most important thing is to use the correct anchor for your wall type. For concrete or solid brick, use standard heavy-duty anchors; for drywall, cavity anchors or metal expansion anchors work best. Always hang the cabinets using the included metal hangers and tighten the screws properly. Use a spirit level to ensure correct alignment.

Hello Sigamar,

your question is very good, and there are some important points you should consider to install IKEA Metod wall cabinets cleanly and safely.

First, you should carefully check the condition of your wall. Concrete walls generally allow the use of heavy-duty anchors, while drywall (plasterboard) walls require special hollow wall or toggle anchors because standard anchors do not hold well enough.

The hanging hooks of the Metod cabinets are designed so that they can only be secured with screws after hanging. I recommend firmly attaching the hooks to the wall with screws before mounting. Be sure to use a spirit level and check both height and horizontal alignment several times.

A common mistake is inaccurate marking. I suggest marking the drill holes precisely with a sharp pencil and using a drill template if available.

For safety, I also advise installing the wall cabinets with two people, as they are often heavy and alignment can be done much more accurately with two.

Can you also tell us what kind of wall you have? That would help make the advice more specific.

Hello everyone,

I would like to offer a structured suggestion on how to safely and effectively install the IKEA Metod wall cabinets step by step, ensuring both cleanliness and stability:

- Preparation: Identify the wall type (concrete, hollow block, drywall)
- Choose appropriate anchors (heavy-duty anchors for concrete/brick, hollow wall anchors for drywall)
- Prepare tools: drill with suitable bit, spirit level, pencil, screwdriver
- Mark the drill holes precisely; consider building a test hanging system on the wall beforehand
- Insert the anchors and check for a secure hold (tap lightly, avoid drilling too forcefully)
- Hang the cabinet on the mounting brackets
- Tighten screws securely but avoid overtightening
- After installation, recheck alignment with the spirit level and adjust if necessary

A common mistake is underestimating the cabinet’s weight and selecting the wrong anchors, which can cause damage over time.

I hope this helps you all!

I completely agree with that. A while ago, I was very unsure if I was doing everything correctly, especially with the anchors and the spirit level. Marking the measurements really made the job much easier and I didn’t end up with crooked cabinets anymore.

I also found it a bit annoying to have to work in pairs all the time, but in the end, it’s definitely recommended. My first wall cabinet installation went smoothly, but with the second one, I ran into problems because I tried to do it alone—I probably didn’t pay enough attention to alignment and had to take everything down again.

So definitely, make sure to have someone help you. Then it will work out!

This is a very important point. Additionally, I would recommend not only checking the drilling depth but also thoroughly removing dust from the drilled hole. Often, the hole is not properly cleaned, which negatively affects the anchor’s grip.

Furthermore, during installation, it is essential to follow the specified number of screws and their positioning to ensure optimal load distribution.

Finally, I suggest not attaching the doors immediately after placing the cabinets. First, assemble the modules cleanly and securely, then install and adjust the doors. This prevents unnecessary strain and avoids installation marks or damage on the cabinet fronts.

Good luck to everyone with the installation!
