Hello everyone, I recently purchased the IKEA Platsa system and am now facing the challenge of choosing the right screws for assembly. Since the basic screws included in the package are often not ideal for certain connections, I want to make sure I use the correct screws to ensure stability and durability. My specific question is: Which types and sizes of screws are recommended for the various components of Platsa, especially for wall mounting and connecting the individual modules together? Additionally, I am interested in whether there are specific materials or coatings to look out for that provide rust protection or generally better durability. I would appreciate detailed tips, practical experience, or advice on common issues that are often overlooked in everyday use.

For wall mounting, be sure to use screws with anchors suitable for the wall type (e.g., nylon anchors for concrete, hollow wall anchors for drywall).Exactly! I would add that with drywall, it’s really important to distribute the load across multiple hollow wall anchors—just one screw won’t be enough. That way, the whole setup will hold perfectly!
Regarding screw types: chipboard screws are of course standard for particleboard, but for wall mounting, feel free to use galvanized screws that are slightly longer than the standard set—better safe than sorry. If you pre-drill properly and countersink carefully, you can avoid unsightly cracks in the wood.
What an interesting question! I really appreciate that you want to know exactly which screws are ideal for PLATSA! 💪
I recently installed it on drywall in my apartment, and for wall mounting, I used metal expansion anchors with matching screws. That holds really securely! For the modules themselves, I used chipboard screws measuring 4x40 mm (4x1.6 inches); they are very practical and easy to handle.
My tip: Pay attention to the type of screw – Torx heads are much better than Phillips, as they slip less, especially when more torque is needed. For more stability and less hassle when screwing, I would definitely recommend them!

The screws should not be too long, otherwise the veneer of the furniture piece can split. That’s a very good point! In addition, I would say that pre-drilling a hole in the modules works wonders, especially with the thinner panels from PLATSA. This helps prevent splintering, and the screw tightens perfectly and holds longer.
Also: zinc-coated chipboard screws are usually sufficient, but if the furniture is near water, it’s worth opting for stainless steel screws for extra protection. They are a bit more expensive, but it pays off – often you only realize when it’s too late!
