Hello everyone, I am currently planning to build an Ikea Metod kitchen island with an integrated countertop and seating area in my kitchen. Specifically, Iâm interested in the best approach to take, which modules from the Ikea Metod series are most suitable for this, and what to pay special attention to during assembly to ensure stability and functionality. It would also be great if someone could offer tips on combining the countertop with seating â for example, regarding the height and durability. I already have basic furniture assembly skills but no specific experience with kitchen islands. Thanks in advance for any helpful advice and experiences!
Hello, I would like to add that when planning, you should definitely adjust the seating height to match the counter height. Bar stools are usually 65â75 cm (26â30 inches) high, so the countertop needs to be raised accordinglyâaround 102 cm (40 inches), as already mentioned.
Itâs also important to ensure a stable anchoring. I recommend installing cross braces made of wood or metal under the countertop in addition to metal brackets, especially if it overhangs freely.
Regarding the units: The Metod pantry cabinets can be easily used for storage, while seating areas should be kept as open as possible to provide enough legroom.
Also, consider the routing of electrical wiring if you want lighting or power outlets in the island, as this adds a lot of convenience later on. I always install a small cable duct in my islands.
