Hello everyone,

I recently installed my Ikea Metod kitchen cabinets and am now looking for the best way to clean them sustainably and gently. I am especially interested in which cleaning products are suitable without damaging the surface or finish, and whether different methods are recommended for the various materials (foil fronts, glass fronts, possibly real wood fronts).

It would also be helpful to know if there are specific cleaning techniques that effectively remove stains or grease without leaving streaks.

Does anyone have experience with the best way to clean typical kitchen dirt such as grease, water spots, or fingerprints from the cabinets without damaging the surface or needing frequent re-cleaning?

Thanks in advance for your tips and recommendations!

Are there any special precautions when using vinegar water on matte films? I'm wondering if frequent use of vinegar might change the matte appearance.

Vinegar water, if used too concentrated or too frequently, can indeed affect the surface of matte films, potentially causing a slight shine or a greasy-looking finish. This is due to the acidic nature of vinegar, which can damage the protective coating.

My advice: use vinegar water only on stubborn grease stains and apply it very sparingly! Always follow up by wiping with a clean, damp cloth and then thoroughly drying with a dry cloth.

A dry microfiber cloth lightly dusted with talcum powder or a special anti-fingerprint cloth works well to preserve the natural matte finish. Avoid moisture and excessive pressure, as these can quickly cause the matte surface to become oily and shiny.

On some cabinet edges, I have slight dark deposits (probably grease) that won’t fully come off with regular detergent and water. What would you recommend to remove them without causing damage?

In such cases, try a gentle grease-dissolving cleaner based on isopropanol (alcohol cleaner), but test it first on a small inconspicuous area and use it carefully. Again, apply sparingly and immediately clean with water and dry.

In summary: less is more, especially with matte films—handle with care to protect the material!

I completely agree. I also had a few spots with stubborn grease and ended up carefully using a homemade vinegar solution. The key is rinsing thoroughly with clean water afterward and drying properly; otherwise, it can quickly look patchy or glossy.

I always recommend using household remedies first since they are gentler. For example, with Metod cabinets, start with mild cleaners before moving on to specialized products.

One more tip: If you're worried about damaging the surface with cleaning agents, you can use a can of compressed air to blow out hard-to-reach areas, like dust or crumbs, before wiping with a damp cloth.
