Hello everyone, some time ago I bought an Ikea Besta shelving unit and I want to take good care of it so that the surface keeps its appearance for as long as possible. My question is: What is the best way to clean and maintain the surface of the Ikea Besta without damaging the material or finish? I am especially interested in tips on which cleaning products or home remedies are suitable, whether I should avoid aggressive cleaners, and how often it makes sense to clean it. Additionally, I would like to know if there are any recommendations for special care products or sealants that can be applied to the surface, particularly for the high-gloss or matte finish options. Thanks in advance for your experience and advice!

I had a Besta shelf with a matte finish and recommend, in addition to regular cleaning, using a special care oil for lacquered furniture on visible signs of wear. It absorbs well and restores the surface’s shine without leaving greasy residues. You should always make sure that the oil is not too aggressive and is suitable for furniture surfaces.

As an additional tip, I recommend treating dirt and stains immediately, as allowing dirt particles to remain for longer periods can cause clearly visible scratches, especially on high-gloss surfaces. It is also better to use gentle circular motions to remove dirt rather than rubbing or scrubbing. This noticeably extends the lifespan of the surface.

I love my Besta with high-gloss fronts! 😊
What really helps me is using a mild furniture polish once a month to maintain the shine and remove small micro-scratches. I always use very soft cloths because I don’t want to leave any marks. Super important: patience during cleaning, then everything looks like new!

One quick note: Fingerprints on high-gloss surfaces can be removed easily with a microfiber cloth and a light spray of water or glass cleaner. Cleaning is straightforward, but always use glass cleaner sparingly and only on small areas.

When it comes to surface care: regularly remove dust and always wipe off any moisture immediately. For the Besta system, do not use abrasive or acidic cleaners. This helps to extend the durability of the paint finish.

What I’ve noticed with my Besta: proper care really makes a difference! 😊 A soft, damp microfiber cloth and occasionally a bit of furniture polish are completely sufficient. And if fingerprints do become a problem, just wipe gently and patiently without applying pressure. The surface will reward you with a lasting shine.
