Hello everyone,

I am currently planning to install an IKEA Metod kitchen, but I have the problem that my wall is not a smooth plaster, but rather a rough, uneven surface (it is old clay plaster with sand content). My question is very specific: How can I securely and permanently fasten the Metod kitchen cabinets to such uneven, rough wall materials?

I am mainly looking for advice on choosing the right wall anchors or fastening materials, any necessary wall preparation, and load distribution. I am also interested in whether there are special techniques to consider with inconsistent wall textures to prevent the cabinets from becoming loose or, worse, falling down over time.

I appreciate any detailed help or shared experiences, as this is my first time doing this and the structural safety of the wall cabinets is very important to me. Thank you!

It is best to use heavy-duty anchors approved for brick. Chemical anchors are a good option if you want to heat them, but usually classic heavy-duty anchors are sufficient for solid walls.

Let me summarize:

- Check the wall for loose spots and repair as needed
- Install wooden battens on uneven areas to create a smooth base
- Use heavy-duty anchors or chemical anchors; for brick walls, heavy-duty anchors are preferable
- Carefully remove drilling dust
- Use screws and anchors of sufficient length, preferably anchors about 8–10 cm (3 to 4 inches) long
- Align the mounting rails precisely using a spirit level
- Re-check and tighten after 2 days

Is my understanding correct? Are there any important details I’m missing?

Thanks for your great support so far!

Yes, your summary is very good! One last point from my perspective:

Pay attention to the load distribution on the screws and wall plugs. The cabinets are hung on Metod suspension rails, which you install horizontally. Distribute the fixing points as evenly as possible and use a few more wall plugs rather than too few.

Also, if you are using heavy countertops, increase the number of fixings accordingly. Additional supports (e.g., substructures at the corners) can help.

Good luck with the installation!
