ᐅ How can I attach IKEA Metod cabinet doors so they are quiet and long-lasting?

sabrinaHello everyone,
I recently purchased an IKEA Metod kitchen cabinet and I am now wondering about the best way to attach the doors so that they are both durable and close and open as quietly as possible.
I know that the IKEA hinges already have a built-in damper, but I sometimes still hear a fairly sharp slam, which over time can be not only annoying but also stressful for the door or the cabinet frame.
Does anyone have practical experience with alternative mounting methods or would you recommend additional dampers or modifications to the existing Metod hinges?
I am looking for a solution that is as simple as possible to implement, does not require major modifications, but still reduces noise and ensures the durability of both the attachment and the door.
I would be very happy to receive tips, product recommendations, and advice on installation!

Hello Sabrina,
I completely understand your issue. The IKEA Metod hinges are solid, but the standard soft-close mechanism often isn’t enough for truly silent closing, especially if the door is relatively large or heavy.
A proven solution is to add additional soft-close dampers, either integrated into the hinges or installed separately next to the door.
It also helps to align the doors precisely and tighten the hinge screws properly without overloading the mounting plate, as otherwise the hinges can loosen or the door can rub, which causes extra noise.
My recommendations are:
- Regularly check and, if necessary, tighten the hinge screws
- Apply rubber or felt pads at the contact points between door and cabinet
- Use alternative dampers, such as those from Blum or Salice, which generally close more softly
These steps usually help to significantly reduce noise and ensure a long-lasting, stable installation.

The IKEA Metod hinges are quite sturdy, but the standard damper often isn’t enough for truly silent closing.I can only agree with that. As an additional tip: if you replace the hinges with high-quality soft-close models, for example from Blum, you can effectively eliminate the noise.
Also, check the door alignment in case it hits too hard somewhere. Rubber buffers help in critical spots.
Regarding the installation itself: screws should be firmly tightened, but not overly so, to avoid damaging the material.
This ensures a durable and quiet assembly.

There are plenty of cases where the mechanism loosens after just a few months, and the doors start rattling again like on day one.
In my opinion, if you truly want noise-free operation, you either need to invest in high-quality branded hardware or simply dampen the door with a light felt strip or silicone buffer.

Place rubber or felt pads between the contact surfaces of the door and the cabinetThat’s exactly what I consider the most practical solution because it’s easy to do, can be replaced at any time, and is relatively inexpensive. Anyone expecting something different in the long run will probably spend a lot and end up frustrated.
Just a personal remark, not a criticism of the suggestions—I just think people shouldn’t blindly trust soft-close mechanisms, since they aren’t automatically the best option.
