Hello everyone,

I have the Ikea Metod cabinets in my new kitchen and would like to install the doors so that they close as quietly as possible and are durable at the same time. I have noticed that some doors do not close properly or become louder over time – which I want to prevent.

Are there any special techniques, dowels, or possible hinge modifications you would recommend? I am also thinking about the correct alignment and adjustment of the doors, as that is crucial.

I look forward to your experiences and tips, especially regarding long-term durability and noise reduction. Thanks in advance!

For quiet closing, simply use the Metod hinges with dampers, if available.
Make sure to adjust precisely: fine-tune the hinges so the door sits flush.
Additionally, felt or silicone buffers on the inside of the cabinet can help. This effectively minimizes noise.

I think that's already half the battle. These small built-in dampers are really a neat feature, almost like a gentle kitchen orchestra 😉.

Sometimes I also attach small, transparent silicone bumpers to the door frame. They are almost invisible, but when you close the door, it’s really quiet and feels more premium.

It’s also important to adjust the hinges carefully—with a screwdriver, slowly and patiently. Kind of like a musician tuning their instrument.

For a durable and quiet installation of Ikea Metod doors, I recommend the following approach:

- Use the original Metod hinges with integrated soft-close dampers, as they are perfectly matched to the door thickness and the cabinet.
- Carefully follow the assembly instructions to avoid tension in the door, which could later cause creaking or banging noises.
- Adjust the hinges via the adjustment screws to align the door evenly and flush with the cabinet frame.
- Add additional damping pads at contact points, especially if the doors strike the frame when fully loaded.

Additionally, screws should not be over-tightened during installation, as this can damage the material and weaken the fixing. Occasional readjustment after use is also recommended.

This really should be emphasized. Stress during installation often leads to premature wear of the hinges and rattling doors.

Additionally, I recommend occasionally lubricating the pivot points – for example, with a light silicone spray. This keeps the mechanism smooth and effectively reduces friction noise.

Another point: not only the hinges but also the cabinet structure itself should be stable. If the cabinet box wobbles, this unnecessarily transfers to the doors and causes noise.

Thank you very much for the tip about lubricating. I wasn’t aware that this could be useful.

A quick follow-up question: How often should the hinges ideally be adjusted or lubricated if they are used heavily every day? I want to avoid the doors creaking for months because I reacted too late.

Also, can it cause problems if the hinges are tightened too much or left too loose when adjusting? I’m a bit concerned whether I can judge this accurately, as my hinges are still new at the moment.
