Hello everyone, I have a question regarding the installation of Ikea Metod doors: How can I mount them so that they close as quietly as possible? The standard hinges already have built-in soft-close features, but I still hear a slight clicking or banging noise when the doors shut. I’m particularly interested in whether there are any specific installation tips, additional components, or perhaps adjustments to the hinges that could help significantly reduce or completely eliminate the closing noise. I want to avoid modifying the doors with rubber buffers or adding extra foam and am looking for a solution that is both functional and visually acceptable. Thanks in advance for your experiences and advice!

Basically, Ikea Metod hinges come with built-in soft-close dampers designed to ensure a smooth closing without loud slamming. However, depending on the installation and door alignment, noise can still occur.

Important points:
- The hinges must be properly adjusted. The door should be set so that it closes evenly against the frame without binding.
- Check if the hinge dampers are still functioning properly, as they can lose effectiveness over time.
- Door profiles and frames should be clean and level, since irregularities where they contact can cause noise.

Another option would be adding soft rubber bumpers or self-adhesive felt strips to the contact areas if the factory-installed dampers are not sufficient. However, since you have excluded this, the solution can only be achieved through precise hinge adjustment.

Here is a brief guide for silent installation and adjustment of Metod doors:

1. Check hinge position: Make sure the hinge sits exactly in the designated hole, without any tension or misalignment.
2. Adjust the hinges: Metod hinges offer three adjustment options – horizontal, vertical, and pressure force. Optimize these so the doors close evenly and without pressure.
3. Inspect the damper: The built-in soft-close mechanism weakens if dirt or dust gets inside the hinge. Clean the hinge with a fine brush if necessary and test its function.
4. Verify closing sequence: The door should not slam shut with full force. It might close too quickly due to misadjustment, which causes the noise.
5. Examine contact surfaces: Are the areas where the door rests flat and smooth? Small irregularities can create sound.

In summary: If the dampers are still functioning well, the key is usually the optimal adjustment of the hinges and a clean, error-free installation.

Hello gugla,

I had a similar issue with my Metod kitchen. Although the hinges were new, small unevenness in the frame caused clicking sounds. Here was my approach:

- Slight adjustment of the hinge positions using an Allen key
- Aligning the doors so they fit evenly against the cabinet frame
- It was also important to adjust the door using the horizontal screws so that the closing pressure is minimal but sufficient

If that doesn’t help, you can also replace the soft-close unit – Ikea offers replacement dampers. The result was much better for me; the doors close almost silently. If you install the new damper, make sure it is aligned correctly, otherwise the effect can be the opposite.

Hey gugla, I find this topic really interesting! I used to have a problem with squeaky Metod doors as well, and small felt pads on the sides worked great for me! Sure, technically it might not be the cleanest fastening solution, but it cushions the noise really well!

If you want to avoid any extra materials, definitely check the hinge adjustment! A bit of patience and gradual fine-tuning gave me the best results. Don’t get discouraged, it’s worth it! You’ll end up with a kitchen that closes smoothly and quietly!

That’s an important point, thank you! How can I tell if the door is not binding or applying too much pressure? My door almost closes properly, but I think the slight clicking noise might be caused by this?

Could you briefly explain how to optimally adjust the pressure setting on the hinges? I feel there might still be room for fine-tuning.

Thanks in advance for the tips!
