Hello everyone, I have a question regarding the installation of Ikea Metod doors: How can I mount them so that they close as quietly as possible? The standard hinges already have built-in soft-close features, but I still hear a slight clicking or banging noise when the doors shut. I’m particularly interested in whether there are any specific installation tips, additional components, or perhaps adjustments to the hinges that could help significantly reduce or completely eliminate the closing noise. I want to avoid modifying the doors with rubber buffers or adding extra foam and am looking for a solution that is both functional and visually acceptable. Thanks in advance for your experiences and advice!
Hello gugla,
Regarding your question about the closing force:
Metod hinges usually do not have a separate screw to directly adjust the closing force; the adjustment is made through the horizontal setting, meaning sliding the door on the hinge.
By turning the horizontal screw, you can move the door closer to or further from the cabinet. The goal is for the door to fit snugly, but not so tight that it bangs or slams when closing.
The best approach is:
- Close the door gently
- Adjust the horizontal screw while observing the movement
- Ensure an even closing pressure without any skewing
If the doors still slam, it may be necessary to replace the dampers or clean the hinges.

I used to have problems with squeaky Metod doors as well, and small felt pads on the sides worked great for me!I find your suggestion interesting, but I wonder whether attaching felt pads is really a long-term solution or more of a quick fix.
If the doors make noise despite proper adjustment, I could imagine it might be due to material interaction (wood on wood or metal on wood) or unnoticed installation errors.
Wouldn't it be more sensible first to thoroughly check the existing dampers and hinges, or even replace them with a different model if the closing noise is a serious issue?
Relying solely on felt or rubber bumpers seems to me more like a cosmetic fix that doesn’t address the underlying problem.
