Hello everyone,

I am planning to install Ikea Metod base cabinets with glass sliding doors but have a few questions regarding the assembly and fine adjustment of the sliding doors. Specifically, I am interested in how to properly fit the glass sliding doors without damaging them, and how to best install the tracks so that the doors glide smoothly. Are there any tips for alignment or special tools that make the installation easier?

Additionally, I would appreciate advice on how to properly support the weight of the glass sliding doors to prevent any warping.

I already have experience with regular Metod doors, but glass sliding doors are new to me. Thanks in advance!

The running rails should always be installed perfectly straight. Use a spirit level. Carefully hang the glass sliding doors onto the rails and adjust them using the roller adjustment screws. Tools needed: screwdriver and spirit level.

To properly support the weight of glass sliding doors, it is recommended to carefully and perfectly level the designated bottom tracks during installation. One of the most important aspects is to strictly follow the installation measurements according to the instructions, as glass sliding doors are more sensitive to misaligned tracks than wood or MDF doors.

A useful tip is to support the glass doors with shims during installation until the tracks and rollers are secured. This relieves stress on the door and prevents warping.

When tightening screws, proceed cautiously and avoid over-tightening to prevent tension.

A fundamental question that is often overlooked: Has the load-bearing capacity of the wall fastening points been checked? This is especially important for glass sliding doors, as the top track carries most of the weight and must be securely anchored.

Without adequate stability, irregular movement or damage to the glass and structure can occur.

I also wonder whether the standard fittings from Ikea are truly sufficient in this case, or if additional reinforcements would be advisable.

That’s a good point. The cabinets are planned to be mounted on a sturdy kitchen back panel, which is actually designed for that purpose. Still, I will carefully inspect the mounting points and reinforce them with anchors and screws if necessary.

Does anyone have experience with extra fittings or alternatives that significantly improve stability?

Standard fittings from Ikea are usually sufficient if the wall is solid. For hollow walls, always use appropriate anchors. For additional safety, metal brackets can be installed under the track rail.
