Hello everyone,

I am currently planning to set up several Ikea Metod kitchen cabinets side by side to create a storage solution in my workshop. My main concern is to prevent the cabinets from shifting or sliding over time, especially when multiple units are lined up together.

The cabinets need to stand firmly and securely, without wobbling or causing the fronts to no longer align flush. Are there any proven methods or tricks to reliably prevent movement without having to drill into the wall? And if the cabinets are stacked, what is the best way to secure them to keep them stable?

I look forward to your advice – including recommendations for any additional accessories or materials that might be suitable. Thank you!

You can also use a plywood board as an underlayment. It helps to even out irregularities and increases stability. Screw the cabinets together and check their alignment with a spirit level. This will prevent any movement.

A brief addition from my perspective:

If you want to set up the cabinets truly stable and durable without wall mounting, it is also important to align the drawers and doors. Fine adjustment of the fronts and internal components prevents a feeling of instability caused by constant movement.

Furthermore, it is advisable to reinforce the cabinets internally, for example with brackets on the back panel that are screwed in from the inside. This greatly increases lateral and cross stability.

If the cabinets have been in place for a while, it is worth occasionally checking the screws, as temperature changes can cause the wood to shift slightly.

It’s worth paying close attention to load distribution because, over time, even small shifts can lead to bigger problems.

I see it differently – in a typical household or workshop, these small shifts are often not an issue at all. I wonder if some people here are sometimes too particular. Ikea cabinets are modular furniture designed to be flexible and easy to assemble. Why should you have to secure the setup completely rigid?

If it’s assembled correctly, that’s usually enough. And if it wobbles, either it was assembled incorrectly or the floor is uneven. Most of the time, uncertainty comes from underestimating the simplicity of the system.
