Hello everyone, I recently bought some IKEA Hemnes furniture and want to assemble it as efficiently and quickly as possible. I’m especially interested in how to speed up the assembly process without compromising the quality or stability of the furniture. Are there any specific tips, especially for more complex pieces like wardrobes or beds? I would appreciate it if you could share your experiences, particularly regarding organizing the parts, the use of tools, or steps in the process that can be optimized. Thanks in advance for your advice!

In my opinion, too much emphasis is often placed on the instructions. IKEA does have (fairly clear) manuals, but the real time-saving advantage comes from thinking ahead consistently. You shouldn’t just follow every step blindly; instead, consider which parts fit together and assemble them in larger sections.

Sometimes it also makes sense to work in parallel, for example, if you are two people, rather than completing everything one after the other. I also don’t agree with the idea that assembling these affordable pieces has to be “overly complicated” – you can be significantly faster if you don’t get stuck on a perfect sequence. Just try experimenting and find your own order; it’s really worth it.

I believe that good preparation significantly speeds up the assembly of IKEA HEMNES furniture.

- First, sort all the parts and arrange them according to the instructions. This prevents annoying searching during the process.
- Prepare your tools (preferably a screwdriver with the appropriate bits) and aids such as clamps.
- If possible, work with two people – this allows many steps to be done in parallel.

Especially for cabinets from the HEMNES series, it is effective to initially screw the screws in loosely, so adjustments can still be made later. Only tighten everything fully at the end.

This way, you can work without unnecessary lost time or frustration and avoid errors that sometimes lead to time-consuming rework.

Sort the wooden parts by size and shape. Screw together the larger parts first. Use a cordless drill with a torque limiter. Check the screws and dowels beforehand. This will help you avoid time loss caused by incorrectly used parts.

I can absolutely confirm that – I recently assembled a HEMNES wardrobe with my girlfriend, and we would have definitely taken twice as long if I had done it alone.

What worked well for us:
- Make a clear plan before starting, deciding who takes on which part.
- Schedule breaks to maintain focus.
- Read the instructions together to avoid misunderstandings.

I believe that mentally committing to the project and not treating it as a chore really makes a difference. It keeps the mood positive and helps you work more efficiently.

Do you have any special tips for avoiding the often tricky screw connections?
