Hello everyone, I recently bought IKEA Besta drawers and now want to equip them with suitable dividers to create better organization for storing my items. Unfortunately, the IKEA instructions are not very detailed, and I am unsure about the best way to make these dividers: How should the material be properly prepared, what dimensions would be ideal, and most importantly, how can I securely attach the dividers inside the drawers so they remain stable and do not shift? Are there different approaches, such as using clip-on systems or custom-built solutions? I would appreciate practical tips, including any personal experiences or recommendations regarding material choice!

Is there a recommendation for the ideal material thickness for these strips?

The thinner, the better, of course, to make the most efficient use of space. Strips that are 6 mm wide with a thickness of 6 mm are often ideal. For attachment, many use a high-quality wood glue or construction adhesive that also bonds well to smooth surfaces. If you prefer to screw them in, I strongly recommend using very small screws and pre-drilling to prevent the wood from splitting. Important: the strips should be smooth and straight enough to allow the partitions to slide in and out easily while still fitting securely. With some testing, you can quickly find the perfect setting.

Totally! And remember: If you scratch or force the trim too tightly, it ruins half the fun! Better to keep it snug but stable. You can also stick felt strips under the trim as a small sliding surface. Saves frustration and even looks stylish 😎.

Thanks to everyone who is helping so thoroughly here! I am planning to cut MDF boards with a thickness of 4 mm (0.16 inches) and use strips measuring 6 mm (0.24 inches) in both width and thickness as guides, which I will screw on – this provides better stability than using glue. For screws, I will use small wood screws of 10 mm (0.4 inches) length and pre-drill the holes. I want to insert the partitions horizontally to create compartments suitable for horizontally stored items. If I want to remodel later, I can easily loosen the screws and reposition the strips. I will update when it gets more concrete!
