Hello everyone, I am planning to build a furniture piece using the Ikea Besta system that includes both open shelves and closed compartments. Specifically, I would like to know the best way to combine the individual BESTA units to create a balanced mix of visible surfaces and storage space. Are there practical modules that work well together, or will I need special customizations? I am also interested in how to attach the doors and back panels on the different units to ensure everything remains stable and looks good. Your experiences and tips would be very helpful, especially regarding assembly and potential challenges during implementation. Thank you!

Most Ikea Besta doors come with adjustable hinges that can be finely tuned to achieve flush alignment without noticeable gaps. Careful installation is important, as the hinge screws can be further adjusted after the door is mounted. When it comes to handles, choices often vary between handleless designs using push-to-open systems and traditional handles. Original Ikea handles offer the best visual match and cost efficiency. Alternatively, handles with standard drilling (64 mm (2.5 inches) hole spacing) are compatible, allowing for personalized customization. Important: Ensure the strength and mounting method of the handles are aligned with the door materials to guarantee long-term functionality.

Great topic! I recently built a BESTA furniture unit with open and closed compartments myself and can only say: the door adjustment options are brilliant – perfect for a clean finish! Be sure to use the original handles, they fit perfectly and are really practical. Tip: stay patient during assembly, sometimes you need to realign the doors a few times, but the result is definitely worth it! Enjoy building and don’t get discouraged!
