temiguelHello everyone,
I am planning to assemble the Ikea Platsa wardrobe at home but have little experience with furniture assembly and no advanced DIY skills. Therefore, I would like to know how to best put together such a flexible system like Platsa without having much prior knowledge.
Are there specific steps or procedures that are especially important to avoid mistakes? What is the best way to approach the assembly when doing it alone or with two people?
Additionally, tips on tools, preparation advice, and how to use the instructions effectively would be very helpful. Maybe you could also share any common pitfalls or experiences that are particularly relevant for beginners.
Thank you very much in advance for your support!

Hello temiguel,
First of all: Don’t worry, assembling the Platsa without much prior DIY experience is definitely doable—you will need some time and patience, but the system is designed so that it works well for beginners with clear instructions.
Here are a few basic tips that might help you:
- Allow plenty of time and read the entire assembly manual before starting. This will give you a good overall understanding.
- Sort all the parts after unpacking, so you don’t have to search for items during assembly.
- A Phillips screwdriver and a small hammer are recommended for assembly—the majority of the hardware is included.
- If possible, assemble the modules with two people. The parts can be awkward to handle, and it’s easier to adjust and secure them together when working as a pair.
- Follow the order in the instructions exactly, especially when assembling the base frames and back panels.
- Use the supplied fasteners carefully and check that all parts fit correctly before final tightening.
A common mistake is not aligning the back panel properly, as stability largely depends on this. Also, check the surface where you’ll build the modules beforehand—the units need to be level.
If you feel uncertain during assembly, try working in small steps with breaks instead of doing everything at once.
I hope this helps you get started!

Based on experience, the Platsa cabinet can be assembled without extensive prior knowledge if you approach the installation systematically. The following points are especially important:
- Planning before assembly: Measure the intended space precisely and decide how many modules you want to use. This planning affects the later assembly and the required connecting elements.
- Understanding the instructions: Ikea manuals use standardized symbols, so it is advisable to familiarize yourself with them beforehand to avoid having to interpret them during assembly.
- Tools: In addition to the supplied tools, I recommend having a cordless drill with the correct bit set (turn carefully to avoid stripping).
- Securing the back panel: Make sure it is installed exactly, as it provides structural stability.
- Assembling with two people is advisable, especially for large modules or when mounting to the wall.
Common pitfalls include incorrect insertion of dowels or screws being tightened too much or too loosely, which affects stability.
A systematic approach and following the assembly instructions carefully are key to success.

I recently built my first Platsa closet myself and just wanted to say: go for it! The system is really beginner-friendly if you follow the instructions step by step and take your time.
What I found especially helpful was to really sort the parts carefully and then work in small sections – so don’t try to handle everything at once, but proceed step by step.

For assembly, a Phillips screwdriver and a small hammer are recommendedI can fully agree with that! I also had a cordless drill on hand, but in the end, I often preferred using the screwdriver because it gives you better control over the pressure and helps avoid damaging anything by accident.
And enjoy the process! Assembling it can actually be quite fun, and you’ll feel great when you’re done 😊
